Tablescaping
With the help of a vintage-selling friend and her folding table I’ve been having a go at setting up for a craft fair to see how I can display my current Series and do my best to prepare for that first booking.
Six offcuts of ochre fabric surplus to a commercial curtain project came in useful to piece together into one massive tablecloth that more of my in-depth Googling assured me should be big enough to neatly cover a 6ft trestle table like a box. Mostly seen in hospitality or event settings, this ‘boxing a table’ technique was so satisfying to see work well with the new cloth and my banner drape looked smart over the top and hid the folds.
One of the few new things I’ve bought for stalls is a selection of foldable crates made from recycled plastic from the Danish design firm Hay. I’ve seen lots of other craft sellers using these and they’re bright and practical. I was really pleased when my shipment arrived and the ones I’d picked were really close to my Cranford Cabinet colours.
Since the items I’ll be selling will change in size, shape and display needs all the time I’ll need to find flexible ways of making things look good though I’m not sure our clothes airer cuts the mustard for Series 4. What do you think?
The act of setting a stall albeit in the communal area of my flat building actually made me feel quite proud of what I’ve made so far. Seeing things displayed nicely and looking great together also gives me a better sense of a continuous look and feel for products of The Cranford Cabinet. As I’m coming up with ideas for each Series it’s gratifying to know that it’s more than my little labels that bring everything together; that I am being consistent, and despite varied materials there are unifying themes. I know that sounds a bit bonkers to say but seeing it is really believing it!
