Craft Beer Is Good for Your Brand Health

Unpacking my new business cards from Moo.com

In proof that drinking craft beer can be good for your (small business) health, it was my enjoyment of delicious sour-style beer from Peckham-based Brick Brewery that led me to find The Cranford Cabinet’s graphic designer.

I’ve loved a sour craft beer for ages and the strong fruit flavour + lactobacillus tartness is balanced really well in Brick’s brews so when I find a new flavour I always have to try it. The artwork, craft and often humour of the craft brewing scene is something that really appeals and Brick Brewery’s sour series can label designs are some of my favourites. Over time I’ve even peeled a few off the cans and stuck them in one of my scrapbooks.

In researching how to bring The Cranford Cabinet alive visually I realised that Em Hyett who designed Brick’s sour labels actually lived locally to me and to my delight she was up for a coffee to chat through my ideas.

I love the graphic, colourful, wallpaper-style designs Em has done for Brick and so she created a characterful cabinet logo for The CC with those as inspiration. The name ‘Cranford Cabinet’ can conjure imagery akin to BBC costume dramas so I wanted the design to embody more of a clean, simple mid-century-design-esque aesthetic to dispel any of those ideas. It also reflects the designs of items in my Series which are, and will have, those aspects.

The video shows me opening my package from Moo.com of my first business cards which I’m really happy with. They’ll be available for people to pick up at markets and hopefully come and have a browse here on my website later.
